PIV unit installation and condensation ventilation in Yorkshire

Cleaning mould deals with what you can see; ventilation deals with why it appeared. Where condensation is the cause, we fit positive input ventilation (PIV) units or upgrade extractor fans so damp air is replaced with drier air instead of settling on cold walls.

The longer you leave it, the worse it gets

Black mould spreads through walls, ceilings and clothing, and the spores can make breathing problems worse.

What a PIV unit does

A PIV unit gently pushes filtered air into the home, usually from the loft. That slight positive pressure moves moist, stale air out through gaps and vents, so humidity stays lower and condensation has less chance to form on windows and cold walls.

Loft PIV units vs flat and apartment units

Houses with a loft usually suit a loft-mounted unit with a ceiling diffuser on the landing. Flats and homes without a loft can use a wall or hallway-mounted unit that works on the same principle. We check your layout on the visit.

Bathroom and kitchen extractor fans

If moisture is concentrated in one room, a continuous-run or humidity-sensing extractor is often the better answer than PIV. We also check existing fans for weak airflow, blocked ducting and vents that dump moist air into the loft.

Condensation and damp control

We take humidity and surface readings first, so the system we fit matches the actual problem. Where the cause is a leak, rising damp or a missing piece of insulation, ventilation alone won't fix it and we will tell you so.

PIV running costs and noise

On normal speed a domestic PIV unit uses roughly the same electricity as a low-energy bulb, and most units are very quiet. We give you the manufacturer's figures for the unit we recommend before you commit.

What’s included

  • Humidity and moisture readings taken before anything is specified
  • Loft and flat PIV units supplied and fitted, usually in one visit
  • Continuous-run and humidity-sensing extractor fans
  • Running cost and noise explained honestly up front

Common questions

Will a PIV unit stop my mould coming back?

It tackles condensation, the most common cause we find in Yorkshire homes. If the cause is a leak or rising damp, ventilation alone won't be enough — which is why we check first.

Do I need PIV or just a better extractor fan?

PIV suits condensation across several rooms. If it's mainly the bathroom or kitchen, a properly specified extractor is often enough.

Can you fit one in a flat?

Yes. Flat versions mount in a hallway ceiling or on a wall.
